This episode of Real Talk @McKinney was curated by McKinney alem Phil Taitt, founder of Dream Reach Inspire. Students engaged in powerful circle discussions centered on the Exonerated Central Park 5 and explored what it means to be falsely accused. Then then listen to an impactful conversation with Raymond Santana, member of the Exonerated Central Park 5, and jaime Santana Jr., Criminal and Civil Rights Attorney, moderated by Phil.
Our McKinney Royals had the opportunity to ask Raymond questions about his lived experience, the lessons he's learned and his ongoing mission to create change in his community.
FERG (previously A$AP Ferg) stopped by McKinney in December for the 2nd episode of Real Talk @McKinney. Ferg is a rapper from Harlem, NYC. He is a lead member of the hip hop collective ASAP Mob, from which he adopted his moniker and recording contract with Polo Grounds and RCA Records—the same labels that helped launch ASAP Worldwide— Ferg as a multi-disciplinary artist, spoke with the students how he combined his love for music, visual art and fashion which led him to where he is today.
For the first installment of REAL TALK @McKINNEY, Actor, Singer, Songwriter Tristan "Mack" Wilds stopped by McKinney to reflect on life as a HS student and his path as an artist. Known for his roles as Michael Lee on the HBO original drama series, The Wire, and as Dixon Wilson on the CW teen drama series, 90210, he talked with the students about his start, growing up in NYC and how we got into acting and music. He was also featured in the Adele music video for "Hello".
