In September 2023, a select group of student artists from grades 8 to 11 had their artwork displayed for The Basquiat Project exhibition at the Barclay's Center.
Each work is a self portrait of the artists and touched upon different social themes such as body image, societal pressures and responsibilities.
This school year McKinney juniors participated in the #EDUHAM program, a partnership between the NYC DOE, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Students took part in a Founding Fathers and Revolutionary War curriculum, analyzed our nation's founding documents, wrote their own performance pieces based on the period and paid just $10.00 (#Ham4Ham) to see the Tony Award winning show Hamilton.
One group of our students was chosen from schools around the city to perform on Hamilton's Broadway stage at the Richard Rogers Theater in front of nearly 1,300 of their peers.
Head to our Instagram to see their performance!
