Michael Walker (Principal) Holding degrees from Fayetteville University in North Carolina, the University of New England in Maine and the College of St. Rose, Mr. Walker has been serving public school students for the past thirteen years, the last seven years as the assistant principal here at Mckinney SSA.
Mr. Walker is a former participant in the Cahn Fellows Ally Program at Columbia University. Prior to his work in education Mr. Walker was a professional musician, singer and songwriter. He is a member of the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers and the National Association of Music Education.
When Mr. Walker finds himself away from the halls of Mckinney he enjoys music and cooking.
Special Education Department
(Department Chair, Science ICT Teacher) A graduate of Brooklyn's own Edward R. Murrow High School, Ms. Russell has been teaching for 12 years. She holds both a bachelor's and master's degrees from Binghamton University.
Outside the classroom Ms. Russell enjoys traveling.
(Self-Contained Special Education Bridge Teacher, Middle School) A twenty year veteran teacher Ms. Adams hails from Panama City, Panama. She earned her B.S. from Langston University and her M.A. from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.
When she's not teaching you can find Ms. Adams cooking and gardening.
(Speech Language Pathologist) Ms. Z has worked in education for the past 20 years. Born and raised in the former USSR in Uzbekistan, she holds degrees from Queens College and St. Johns University and started her career teaching Music History and Music Theory.
When not working with students at Mckinney, Ms. Z enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
(Middle School Humanities) A 27-year veteran of the classroom, Ms. Roye has spent the past 13 years working at McKinney SSA. Originally from Jamaica W.I., she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Education from Western Carolina University in Callowhee, NC and her Master's of Science in Education from Touro College.
She enjoys theatre, track and field, and various other outdoor activities.

(11th grade English, AP Language, Dean of Students) A ten year teaching veteran Ms. Edwards holds a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from Brooklyn College. Outside the classroom Ms. Edwards enjoys reading and hiking.
Alphonso Dance Jr.
(12th grade English, AP Literature) A native New Yorker, Mr. Dance has spent the last 10 years in the classroom. Mr. Dance earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Brooklyn College. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, reading and running.
(Middle School Math) Ms. Edwards began her career working as a banking manager after earning her Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration from S.U.N.Y at Oswego. She continued her studies at C.U.N.Y., where she completed her Master's of Science in Environmental Science. She has dedicated 11 years to her work in the classroom, the past two of which she has been at McKinney SSA.
Originally from Trinidad W.I., she enjoys sports, outdoor activities, volleyball, hiking, and apple picking.
(Data Specialist, M.S. Coordinator, Single Point of Contact, Inquiry Team Leader, 8th Grade Math)
Mr. Carrion is a native Brooklynite holding degrees from both Binghamton University and Adelphi University. He has dedicated the last 15 years to teaching, having previously worked as a sociotherapist and medical social worker.
Outside of school Mr. Carrion also works as a professional DJ and enjoys coaching AAU basketball, and playing the sport as well.
(Algebra I, Algebra II) Ms. Sylvester earned a Bachelor's of Science in Applied Mathematics from Hunter College and a Master's in Secondary Mathematics Education from Touro College. A former inspector in the Tobacco Enforcement division of the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, Ms. Sylvester has been teaching for 12 years, the last two at Mckinney SSA.
Ms. Sylvester, originally from Brooklyn, enjoys crocheting, jogging and reading. She also strongly believes that one should never get caught saying "I'm not good at math," it's as essential as reading.
(Geometry, Algebra II) Ms. Stephens originally hails from Virginia, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Virginia State University. She continued her studies at New York University where she earned a Masters in Mathematics Education. She has spent the past three years of her thirteen-year teaching career at McKinney SSA.
Ms. Stephens also enjoys reading and listening to Jazz Music in her free time.
(Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Cal, Department Chair) A native of Kingston, Jamaica Mr. Nelson has worked in education for the last 13 years. Mr. Nelson earned his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and Master's degrees from New York University and Columbia University, Teachers College.
Away from the classroom Mr. Nelson enjoys relaxing and spending time with his dog.
Geedee Angeli Baba
(Chemistry and Physics, Department Chair) Originally from the Philippines, Ms. Baba earned her BSED in Physics & Chemistry from the University of San Carlos and her Masters in Science & Technology from The University of the Visagar. She has amassed 10 years of experience in the classroom, over half of which have been at McKinney.
In her free time, Ms. Baba enjoys reading novels and participating in sports.
(U.S. History, Government & Economics, Department Chair) Ms. Cooke, a native Brooklynite, has 25 years of teaching experience. She earned her Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology from Marymount Manhattan College and Masters of Science degrees in Guidance and Administration and Supervision from Brooklyn College and Touro College.
Away from the classroom Ms. Cooke devotes her time to attending church, helping the homeless and exercising.
(Global History, Software Engineering) Ms. Ponce hails from San Antonio, TX and holds degrees from New York University and Stony Brook University. Before working at McKinney Ms. Ponce taught math enrichment and writing to young women and girls at a non-profit.
Ms. Ponce is an avid reader, pop culture enthusiast and knitter.
Foreign Language Department
(Spanish I, AP Spanish, Department Chair) Originally from the Republic of Panama, Ms. Grant earned a degree in Political Science and Spanish Literature from Binghamton University and a Masters in Educational Psychology. She has dedicated her entire 28-year teaching career to McKinney SSA. She has also worked as a caseworker for New York City Human Resource Administration. Mrs. Grant is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc..
In her free time, Mrs. Grant enjoys cooking.
(Visual Art) Ms. Chung received a BFA in sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis, and an MA in art/museum education from NYU. For five years from 2000, she lived in Japan, exhibiting her art and teaching as an ALT/Art Teacher through the JET Program. Since returning to NYC, she continually exhibits throughout the country and has been included in shows at Sony Wonder Technology Lab, Lana Santorelli Gallery and the Commons at NYU.
Ms. Chung also teaches art to foster children throughout the NYC metro area through the non-profit, Foster Pride.
(Dance) A graduate of the Hampton University Psychology Department, Zakiya Harris earned her MA in Dance Ed. from NYU. Aside from her over 10 years of classroom teaching experience, Ms. Harris also serves as the co-head of the Visual & Performing arts Department as well as Artistic Director for Asase Yaa School of the Arts.
She has performed professionally at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and BAM.
(Instrumental Music) A graduate of the CUNY Music Program and the Lehman College Music Education and Music Performance Program, Wil Hylton has amassed music performance and production experience with such groups as Salt n Pepa, and Kid n Play. He has also performed trumpet with several ensembles.
E. Dale Smith
(Theatre) A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin’s Theatre Education program and the Columbia School of the Arts, E. Dale Smith has spent the past 16 years teaching in classrooms in Texas, California and New York. He continues to work professionally as a playwright, lyricist, director and actor at several venues throughout New York City including Manhattan Repertory Theatre, Theatre Row, and The Players Theatre.
During his rare hours outside of a theatre, Mr. Smith enjoys reading and singing his heart out to Broadway cast recordings.
Physical Education Department
(Physical Education, Athletic Director) Mr. Musa received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Brooklyn College. Dedicating his four year teaching career to the students of Mckinney SSA, Mr. Musa enjoys participating in athletics in his spare time.
