The Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts is proud to be a member of the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL). The mission of PSAL is to provide opportunities for educating students in physical fitness, character development and socialization skills through an athletic program that fosters teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
While PSAL is open only to high school students, our middle school participates in the CHAMPS Middle School Sport and Fitness League. The CHAMPS league is an initiative of the New York City Department of Education that promotes physical activity among children going through the critical years of middle school. The name CHAMPS derives from the initials of the five values that define its participants: Cooperative, Healthy, Active, Motivated, and Positive Students. The activities offered range from traditional sports such as basketball, to non-traditional sports such as double-dutch.
